Hello again! My #dog, Chachi, and I have some tips for #tiptuesday on what every #petparent should have on hand in case of #emergencies involving your #pets. Hopefully, you will never have to use them, but, if needed here are some things I have learned to keep in Chachi's closet at home and in a bag in our car.
During the #Spring and #Summer months, #Chachi and I like hanging out at the #SanMarcosriver, taking walks around the beautiful #parks we have here, and even #hiking around the #greenspaces. I decided to keep a #firstaid bag of stuff for my #furbaby just in case he gets bitten or stung.
When I first started #familypetnanny, I was making these shopping bags out of #petfood bags. I still have some available for purchase soon to be featured on my #Facebook page at Facebook.com/familypetnanny. I found they were also great to carry #Chachi's #firstaid needs and snacks for when we hit the mall, lol!
Anyway, back to the #pet #firstaid checklist. You know what your #pet needs the most, depending on their age and any special needs they may have. Here are some basic tools to have in your #firstaid kit:
- Wound wash
- Self-clinging bandages
- Bandage scissors
- Eye wash
- Dog cone
- Muzzle
- Extra leash
- Hydrogen peroxide
I am not a #veterinarian, so don't take my word for it. If you have any doubts, questions, or concerns about any of the products mentioned above, please consult with your own #vet. Again, your pet may have special needs to take into consideration.
Another good thing ro have available is:
- Pet medical records
Last but not least on your #pet #firstaid checklist is:
- Important phone numbers
Pet Poison Helpline: 800-213-6680
ASPCA Poison Control Center: 800-426-4435
*A note about ants bites and bee stings:
Fire ants and bee stings, in particular, can cause serious discomfort for pets. Little red bumps can appear and that's normal. Treat the area with cortisone cream to alleviate itching and burning, then bandage it. If your #pet is allergic, give them an antihisthamine, like #Benedryl. Ask your vet for the proper dosage according to your pet's weight. Finally, apply a cold compress to the affected area to help with swelling and pain.
In rare cases, animals can have life-threatening reactions to insect #bites or #stings. Please take your #pet to the nearest vet immediately if they display severe discomfort or have trouble breathing.
I hope you have found good tips here today! I love to keep my readers and #clients informed as I learn what is best #Chachi, the love of my life, and my #clients, too, as they become family to us. I hope you and your #pets enjoy the rest of the #Summer! Peace, love, and pets!
